Honour Killing: NRI kills stepdaughter in Punjab

Amristar, Jun 30: Busting the assumption that ignorance of people from the rural areas of the country is really the cause behind evil social practices such as honour killing, a non-resident Indian (NRI) man is suspected to have killed his step-daughter for falling in love with a boy from a different caste.

The NRI teenage girl was reportedly poisoned to death by her father for having a relationship with a Belgium-based boy from to another caste.

18-year-old Amritpal Kaur was a permanent resident of Belgium. She was in love with a boy identified as Lakhbir Singh.

Amritpal's father Mehtab Singh, who disapproved of this inter-caste relationship, brought the girl to India a few days back.

After he killed her, the step-father hurriedly cremated the girl raising doubts in the minds of close family members, who reported it to the police.

The police arrested the man on Tuesday, Jun 29.
