Mobile phone blocked in Kashmir due to violence
Srinagar, Jun 29: The state government have issued notice to various mobile services providers including BSNL in north Kashmir and the other part of valley to block both mobile and SMS service following incidents of violence, an official said on Tuesday, Jun 29.
"We blocked the SMS service on the instructions of the director general of police, who cited security reasons for the disruption" says Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), general manager, Mahesh Shukla.
"Mobile services will be restored as soon as we get further instructions by the government," says Mahesh Shukla.
Looking at the tense situation in Jammu Kashmir on the fourth day of violence, curfew is still imposed in Sopore and various part of valley, while movement of civilians has been restricted in many parts of Srinagar. The valley has witnessed protests over the killing of youths in alleged CRPF firing.
Expressing concern over civilians becoming victims of police action in the Kashmir Valley, Omar Abdullah invited Chidambaram to visit the state Monday, Jun 28.
