Members of dissolved Indian Medical Association protest
New Delhi, June 29 (ANI): Members of dissolved Indian Medical Association, the autonomous medical body of India, protested against its dissolution at Jantar Mantar here on Monday.
The protest was against the Health Ministry's decision to dissolve the Medical Council of India (MCI), Introduction and implementation of Bachelor of Rural Healthcare course (BRHC) and Clinical Establishment Bill, 2010.
Protesters said the steps taken by the Health Ministry were against the interests of medical profession.
They said it was the first time in the history of Indian Medical Association that they had to protest.
"In the 80 years' history of IMA this is the first protest that is being held at Jantar Mantar. We have been forced to do this demonstration. IMA is an association which controls the medical education of the country and it has been dismantled by the government by passing an ordinance in the Parliament that is completely wrong." Said Dr. Mohmad Abbaas, Former National President, IMA.
The Association was established in 1928 as a body to look after the interests of doctors as well as the well being of the community at large. (ANI)
