Lovers escape honour killing, commit suicide

Panipat, Jun 28: A young couple here decided to escape the fate of several couples, who married against caste norms and met their end in 'honour killings', by committing suicide.

The couple, who were residents of Dhera village in Panipat district, committed suicide on Sunday, Jun 28 by jumping before a train.

The deceased have been identified as Deepak Kumar (25) and Tina (18).

"The boy and girl left their village separately in the morning and later met at some place near Samlkha town in Panipat district. From there they went to the railway tracks and jumped before a fast moving train," a railway police official told a news agency.

"They were from different castes. Deepak was from Saini caste whereas Tina was from Lohar caste. Their parents were against the marriage and therefore they killed themselves," he added.
