Pakistan proposes common police force for SAARC
Islamabad, June 26 (ANI): Pakistan on Saturday proposed the formation of a common police force for the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC) countries.
Addressing the SAARC Home / Interior Ministers' Conference, Pakistan Interior Minister Rehman Malik said there should be a "SAARC Police Force" to facilitate information exchange among the member countries.
In his address, Malik stressed on the need to work for the eradication of terrorism from the region.
Interior/Home Ministers of SAARC nations are discussing ways to strengthen police cooperation and other means to combat terrorism in the conference.
The conference also discussing proposals like maritime security and anti-piracy operations under the SAARC charter.
During the conference India made it clear that it wants visible cooperation as it believes that if any country is serious about fighting terrorism, its cooperation should be visible in terms of information-sharing and other aspects. (ANI)
