New Delhi, Jun 23: Government has come up with a National Litigation Policy on Wednesday, Jun 23 to be an 'efficient and a responsible' litigant for the cases like Bhopal gas tragedy. Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily said that the new policy would be able to prevent the delay or neglect of the important cases such as Bhopal tragedy.
Moily informed that the policy makes government and its agencies were predominantly responsible in courts and tribunals for such cases, in India.
Policy also recognizes the government's responsibility to protect the rights of citizens and to respect their fundamental rights. Moily added that those in charge of the conduct of official litigation should never forget this basic principle.
Moily also informed that the government would categorize and group court cases under this policy, so that those contesting on behalf of the government could prioritise them. He added that this policy will help the citizens to have justice with out delay or neglect at any stage as a 'sensitised and sensitive' government would represent all the cases like Bhopal tragedy.
