Kolkata,June 23 (ANI): Accompanied by an 11-member delegation of All India Gorkha League, the widow of Madan Tamang, Bharati Tamang, met West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee here on Wednesday.

Bharati sought the state government's early action in the nabbing of the assailants of her husband who had crusaded for the creation of separate Gorkhaland state in the Darjeeling hills region.

After the meeting, Bharati Tamang said they were satisfied with the meeting as the CM reportedly assured them that the main culprits behind murder would be held soon.

"We had a fruitful meeting with the CM and he has assured us to give us justice. We have come for justice. He has given assurance to give us justice," said Bharati Tamang, widow of Madan Tamang.

The All India Gorkha League (AIGL) has demanded that if state government fails to arrest those responsible for the murder of its leader Madan Tamang, the case should be referred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the federal investigative agency for thorough probe.

"We have requested the CM that the culprits involved in the murder of Mr. Madan Tamang should be arrested. This is our demand and if the state government is not able to that then the case should be referred to the CBI. But we have been assured by the Chief Minister that the state government will arrest every culprit; so we are satisfied by the assurance given by him," said S P Zimba, Advisor, All India Gorkha League (AIGL).

Madan Tamang was killed on May 21 after being attacked by unknown miscreants during a rally in Darjeeling city.

The Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) is the other forum spearheading the crusade for a separate state of Gorkhaland in West Bengal.

Madan Tamang also had demanded a separate state but was opposed to GJM's stand on setting up an interim council for Darjeeling hills.

He was a vocal opponent of Bimal Gurung, chief of GJM, and had levelled certain corruption charges against him. (ANI)
