Pakistan to release 17 Indian prisoners
Islamabad, Jun 22: Pakistan has decided to release 17 Indian prisoners as a goodwill gesture on June 23, informed the official sources on late Monday, Jun 21.
They will be released through the Wagh land border ahead of meeting between Foreign Secretaries of the two countries on Jun 24, said the official source. He also informed that the other details about the prisoners to be released could not be ascertained immediatley.
In the talks between Foreign Secretaries of two nations on Jun 24, the humanitarian issues including prisoners being held in jails in India and Pakistan, are expected to be discussed.
Indian Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao will hold talks with her Pak counterpart Salman Bashir to find ways to bridge the trust deficit between the two countries and prepare ground for meeting of Foreign Ministers on Jul 15.
