BSNL makes broadband affordable for rural India

Bangalore, Jun 22: In a move that will help the rural majority of India to part take in the growth of telecom in the country's ever emerging telecom market, state-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) unveiled a slew of special tariff plans for the non-urban subscribers.

BSNL is offering the new and affordable tariff plans with financial support from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), Department of Telecomm.

One among the new plans is the Rural USOF, under which the subscriber is required to pay up just Rs 99 per month rental to avail broadband services.

Priced at Rs 150 monthly rental, BBG Rural USOF tariff offers 1 GB of data transfer.

The above two tariffs require the subscribers to pay telephone connection charges separately.

Besides these simple plans, BSNL is offering four combo tariffs.

BBG Rural Combo 250 plan offers 2 Mbps broadband speed, 1 GB data transfer and 100 calls (MCU) free of cost per month while BBG Rural Combo 550 and BBG Rural Combo 999 plans come with 2 Mbps speed, 6 GB and 12 GB data transfer and 250 and 450 calls (MCU) respectively.

The state-run telecom major, which is currently leading the country's broadband market, also launched unlimited BB Home Rural Combo UL 550 plan offering 512 Kbps speed, 4 GB data transfer and 150 calls (MCU) free of cost.
