Nitish snubs Modi, returns flood relief cheque
Patna, Jun 19: The Narendra Modi- Nitish Kumar spat continues to grow uglier as the Bihar Chief Minister has now turned down the Rs 5 crore cheque given by the Gujarat government for Kosi flood relief.
The tiff began over the Gujarat government publishing an advertisement on the heavy donations it made to the Bihar flood relief and it snowballed over some Bihar dailies published photographs of Nithish Kumar and Narendra Modi holding hands in show of solidarity in another advertisement.
The strain in Modi-Kumar tie became evident when Nitish cancelled a dinner with BJP leaders during the two-day national executive meet.
With this, Nitish Kumar has made it clear that there will be no alliance between Bharatiya Janata Party and his Janata Dal (United) in the upcoming state assembly elections.
The Chief Minister knows that he has to keep away from Modi, the face of Hindutva, if he wants to attract the votes of the Muslims, comprising 16 per cent of the state's population.
