6.0-magnitude quake rattles Andaman Islands
New Delhi, Jun 19: Just days after an earthquake hit the Nicobar islands, a moderate intensity temblor rattled the Andaman Islands early on Saturday, Jun 19.
According to the Meteorological Department, the 6.0-magnitude quake with a latitude of 13.4 degree north and a longitude of 93.0 degree east occurred at 4:39 am and struck at a depth of 11-kilometre.
There are no immediate reports of loss of life or damage to property.
This comes six days after a strong earthquake of magnitude 7.5 hit the Nicobar islands in the Indian ocean. A tsunami alert was sounded following the quake. It was lifted a day later.
Due to the Nicobar islands earthquake moderate tremors were felt in several parts of Tamil Nadu's Chennai and its suburbs last Sunday, Jun 13.
