Rajya Sabha Polls 2010 Results

New Delhi, Jun 18: Election for 18 Rajya Sabha seats across five states was held on Thursday, Jun 17 with several political, legal and business heavyweights in the fray.

Even though the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the poll for 55 seats from 13 States, the polls for all the berths were not held as many candidates were elected unopposed.

The following in the overview of the state-wise results of the Rajya Sabha Polls 2010:

Bihar

Rajasthan

Number of seats - 4

Winners - Party

Ram Jethmalani - BJP
V P Singh - BJP
Anand Sharma - Congress
Ashk Ali Tak - Congress

Karnataka

Number of seats - 4

Winners - Party

Vijay Mallya - Independent
M Venkaiah Naidu - BJP
Oscar Fernandes - Congress
Ayanur Majunath - BJP

Some of the leaders who sailed into the Upper house of the parliament unopposed, earlier, were Union I&B minister Ambika Soni from Punjab and Union environment minister Jairam Ramesh from Andhra Pradesh, Gandhi family loyalist Satish Sharma from Uttar Pradesh, BJP's Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi from Uttar Pradesh and BJP's Chandan Mitra from Madhya Pradesh.
