New Delhi, June 18 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged demonstration here on Friday to protest against increased prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

On Friday, cost of CNG went up by 5.60 rupees in New Delhi and Mumbai.

Police had to resort to mild use of force and water canon to disperse protesting workers.

" This will make life very difficult for the common man. The prices are already very high. Inflation has sky rocketed, water prices have gone three folds, electricity prices have gone more than three times along with the public transport fares," said Leader of Opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijay Kumar Malhotra.

"The government is fooling people in the name of common wealth games. Already they have put additional burden of 25, 00 crores. The public has been betrayed," he added.

Amid anti government slogans, BJP leaders criticised Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit for burdening the residents of the city with increasing prices of essential commodities.

They also said Dikshit has failed to take effective measures to ease the pressure on common people.

"Every resident of Delhi is unhappy. They have increased prices of petrol, diesel, LPG electricity and DTC and now CNG. And then the Chief Minister says what is the big deal about price hike, Delhi residents are capable of paying the extra cost, shame on such Chief Minister," said BJP Delhi state unit president Vijender Gupta.

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the company that supplies CNG in Delhi, and NCR has increased the prices from 21.90 rupees per kilogram to 27.50 rupees per kilogram. (ANI)
