Obama visits Gulf Coast: Pressure on BP increases
Washington, Jun 14: US President Barack Obama made his fourth trip to the Gulf Coast oil spill zone on Monday, Jun 14.
Obama will wrap up his two-day visit with a national address at 8 pm on Tuesday, Jun 15. He also plans to lay down the law in a meeting with the BP officials on Wednesday, Jun 16.
Obama will also travel to Alabama, Mississippi and Florida for the first time after the crisis began, on Jun 14 and 15. His visit intends to assess the situation, which Alabama Governor Bob Riley reported that is going from bad to worse.
Obama's visit this time has increased the pressure on British Petroleum (BP) to boost the capacity to contain the gushing oil well in the Gulf of Mexico. US also had suggested that BP should set up an escrow account, administered by an independent panel, to pay claims by the workers who got affected by the worst oil spill in the US history.
