Srinagar on the boil again over boy's death
Srinagar, Jun 12: Srinagar is on the boil again, this time over the death of a 17-year-old youth during a clash between stone-pelting demonstrators and police.
The death of the boy, identified as Tufail, who was killed on Friday, Jun 11 in a clash between stone-pelting demonstrators and security personnel in Rajouri Kadal area, sparked off immediate protests.
The locals who accused the security personnel of killing the boy in the fire held violent protests leading to prohibitory orders being passed in the old city area to bring the situation under control on Saturday, Jun 12. Meanwhile, a spontaneous strike was observed in the rest of the areas as part of the protest against the death.
Authorities have enforced section 144 CrPC under five police stations of Nowhatta, Khanyar, Safakadal, Maharajgun and Rainawari. Police and paramilitary forces personnel are patrolling the streets of the old city areas.
At least 25 people were injured in the protests that ensued till late night on Friday, Jun 11.
While the police initially thought that the boy was killed after tripping on a stone while security forces were chasing the protesters, it was later found that Tufail was hit by a blunt object. So the police now claim that the boy was murdered by some miscreants who took him to hospital and later fled.
“As per medical examination of the teenager"s wound, the case appears to be of a deliberate murder. Police is on the look out of the two persons who dropped the deceased at the SMHS hospital in a car and later disappeared from the scene," a police spokesman is quoted as saying in reports.
