Raphael's The Madonna of the Pinks no 19th-century fake
London, June 11 (ANI): Britain's National Gallery is relieved to have found that a Raphael painting bought for a whopping 34million pounds is indeed genuine.
Samples from the canvas of the rediscovered "The Madonna of the Pinks" show that the work is not a 19th-century fake, as some critics had claimed.
"We are now able to say with even greater confidence that this painting was not a 19th-century fake," The Times quoted Ashok Roy, the director of scientific research at the National Gallery, as saying.
"The Madonna of the Pinks" will be the main attraction of Close Examination, a National Gallery exhibition opening June 30. (ANI)
