China demands severe punishment for North Korean guards
New Delhi, June 10 (ANI): China has taken a tough stand after the deadly shooting on its border with Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), demanding a proper investigation and severe punishment to the culprits, the state news agency Xinhua reported today.
The incident took place in Dandong City in northeast China's Liaoning Province on June 4 when some residents, who were suspected of crossing the border for trade activities, were shot by North Korean guards.
"China attaches great importance to the incident and immediately lodged solemn representations to the DPRK, it demands the DPRK thoroughly investigate the incident, severely punish those responsible for it, and properly deal with issues arising from it " the Liaoning provincial government said in a statement.
North Korea expressed sorrow for the deaths in the incident, and extended condolences to families of the deceased and the injured, the statement said.
It added that Border authorities of China and DPRK were holding more talks to handle issues related to the incident. (ANI)
