Govt committed to peace in JK: Manmohan Singh
Srinagar, Jun 7: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh addressed the fifth convocation of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in Srinagar, on Monday, Jun 7. He said that Government respects the human rights and will always be committed to peace in Jammu Kashmir.
He added that education in Jammu Kashmir, is second to none. He also declared a Rs 100 crore grant, to the Jammu Kashmir University.
He arrived Srinagar on the two-day visit intended to make a fresh call to separatists for the talks and announce a financial package for saffron growers in the valley. He is expected to declare a grant of Rs 200 crore package for the saffron industry, which faces tough times because of the adulterated saffron flooding the market.
Prime Minister will hold talks with the leaders of political parties in Jammu Kashmir, including PDP and CPM.
He is expected to make an appeal to the separatists including Hurriyat Conference, for joining the talks. Manmohan Singh will also carry out the review of Rs 634 crore Srinagar-Leh Transmission line, during his visit.
