Kolkata, June 7 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee has asked councillors elected in the recent civic body polls to work for the common people and win their trust.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, Banerjee said: "You have not only won because of your individual capacity, but you have won with the blessings of the people. To respect the people's verdict, you have to work 100 percent for the people, as maximum as you can."

"Whether you are better than others or not would be decided only when people compare your work with others. Your position does not matter. The important thing is how you can deliver your best work," she added.

In the municipal elections held across West Bengal on May 30, the TMC snatched the prestigious Kolkata Municipal Corporation from the Left Front and trounced the Communists in most of the 80 other state municipalities.

In last year's April/May parliamentary polls, the Communists won just 24 seats, down from its score of 60 in the earlier house.

West Bengal, which has been ruled by the Left Front since 1977, is going to the polls in 2011 to elect a new 294-member assembly. (ANI)
