Three taxi drivers attacked in Brisbane

Brisbane, Jan 17(ANI): Taxi drivers in Australia have been subjected to a spate of violence with three more cabbies being attacked and robbed in separate incidents in Brisbane.

In the worst attack, a cabbie was struck in the face with an iron bar after picking up a man in Lutwyche Road at Windsor about 6 p.m. and taking him to Storkey Street at Albion.

The man stole cash from the taxi driver before running off towards Albion Road. ocal residents came to the cabbie's assistance, as they immediately called police for help.

The driver was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital for treatment.

Police have alleged that the passenger became aggressive with the driver, causing him serious facial injuries, The Courier Mail reports.

They have also released security camera images of the wanted man.

The other two attacks were reported from Spring Hill and Gold Coast area of the city.

The attacks follow a spate of incidents against Indian taxi drivers in the country.

Earlier, in January, an Indian cabbie was bashed by two passengers outside Geelong, Melbourne.

According to reports, the driver had stopped his car in a service lane off Melbourne Road after five passengers refused to pre-pay their fare.

An eyewitness to the incident said two of the men dragged the driver out of his cab and began hitting and kicking him in the middle of the road. (ANI)
