Ex-Chilean dictator Pinochet amassed USD 21 million fortune
London, June 4 (ANI): Former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet amassed a fortune worth 21 million dollars during his rule.
Less than 10 percent of this wealth can be accounted for by his military salary a University of Chile study ordered by the country's Supreme Court to support an investigation into allegations of illegal enrichment, has concluded.
The Daily Express quoted lawyers as saying that the findings reinforce allegations of Pinochet's bribe-taking as commissions on weapons sales.
The Chilean establishment launched an inquiry into Pinochet's suspiciously large wealth and reported Human Rights violations, in 2004 following the discovery of secret US bank accounts. The dictator was placed under house arrest and died in captivity in 2006. (ANI)
