India's steel production to reach 124 million tonnes by 2012: Virbhadra Singh
New Delhi, May 31 (ANI): Union Minister of Steel Virbhadra Singh on Monday said India has set a target of 124 million tonnes of steel production by December 2012, adding that it is a viable target based on current position.
"We have a target of 124 million tonnes by 2012 December. It is realistic, based on facts; it is not a figure for sake of figure. All our endeavor will be to see that these targets are achieved," said Singh.
As per the report of the Steel Ministry, steel production rose by 4.2 per cent in 2009-2010.
"India has emerged as the fifth largest producer of steel in the world and is likely to become the second largest producer of crude steel by 2015-16," said a steel ministry report. (ANI)
