West Bengal: At least 65 passengers were killed and 110 injured when 13 coaches of the Mumbai-bound Lokmanya Tilak Express train derailed. The Government sources informed that the railway tragedy was a Maoist attack. They also said that Maoist leader Bapi, is the main suspect behind this attack.

More fatalities were feared in the mangled wreckage after 13 carriages of the Mumbai-bound express train careened off the tracks in the state of West Bengal and collided with the oncoming freight train.

Coaches S6, S5, S4 badly damged. More than 50 passengers in these 3 coaches are feared trapped. Rescue measures are going on. Injured shifted to Karagpur Hospital.

The official death toll stood at 20, but a doctor treating the injured at the site told the NDTV television network that at least 30 people had been killed.

Railway officials said the derailed coaches of the express train from Howrah fell on another track and was hit by a goods train. More casualties are feared, they said.

Railways Minister Mamata Bannerjee, who rushed to the site, said she had originally been told that the derailment had been caused by an explosion on the tracks. Railways have arranged a special train from Khoragpur to Mumbai. Night train services may be discontinued.
