Train mishap: IAF rushes six choppers for rescue operation

Kolkata, May 28 (ANI): The Indian Air Force (IAF) has launched a massive rescue operation after the Mumbai bound Howrah-Kurla Lokmanya Tilak Gyaneshwari Super Deluxe Express train was derailed killing about 65 and injuring over 150 people in West Bengal's West Midnapore District on Friday.

Six air force helicopters were pressed into service and a medical team was rushed in to carry out the rescue operation. Hundreds of people are believed to be still trapped in the damaged coaches of the Gyaneshwari Express.

One Chetak and five Mi-17 helicopters have been sent to help in the rescue effort at the site.

The IAF has also pressed seven doctors and three paramedics for providing first aid to the injured.

Security agencies suspect the involvement of the Maoists. (ANI)
