Jaya Bachchan declines to contest Rajya Sabha elections
New Delhi, May 28 (ANI): Film actress and out going Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan on Friday turned down the Samajwadi Party's offer to re-nominate her for the upper house of Parliament.
Bachchan turned down the offer citing her family's disapproval
Biennial elections to the Rajya Sabha is scheduled to be held in June.
On Wednesday, the Samajwadi Party had re-nominated Bachchan for the Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh.
The re-nomination offer was said to further alienate former party general secretary Amar Singh.
The announcement also reflected the changed equations between Amar Singh and the Bachchan family.
Former minister Rashid Masood, who had lost 2009 Lok Sabha election from Saharanpur, has also been nominated for Rajya Sabha by the party. (ANI)
