Chidambram says onus of peace talks lies with state government

Guwahati (Assam), May 26 (ANI): Union Home minister P Chidambaram has said he is satisfied with the law and order situation in Assam.

Speaking with media after talks with Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at the Raj Bhawan, Chidambaram said that he had placed the onus of the forwarding the peace process with rebel groups on the state government.

"The state government may take up appropriate step in this regard", Chidambaram maintained.

Referring to the arrest of National Democratic Front of Bodoland chief Ranjan Daimary, ULFA Chairman Aravinda Rajkhowa and vice c-in-c Raju Baruah, Chidambaram said this indicated that law and order in the state is improving rapidly and is vividly visible.

He expressed the hope that rebel groups in the state would come forward for talks sooner than later.

He also said that security operations in the north east would continue till the rebels put down their arms and rejoined the mainstream. (ANI)
