Verdict on Rathore's plea to be given today
Chandigarh, May 25: A Sessions court in Chandigarh is likely to pronounce its verdict on Tuesday May 25 on the plea of former Haryana DGP SPS Rathore who was accused of molesting a teenage tennis player Ruchika Girhotra. Rathore challenged the six-month sentence awarded to him by a CBI court for molesting the teenager.
The victim"s family and CBI had also filed petitions seeking enhancement of the sentence to maximum two years.
On May 20, the court fixed May 25 for delivering the judgment on all the three pleas.The court had heared arguments on day-to-day basis from May 3 to 11. The proceedings were held in camera.
Rathore was sentenced to six-month imprisonment on December 21, 2009 last year by a CBI court for molesting the budding tennis star, at Panchkula on August 12, 1990 because of which she committed suicide.
