LG's office sends back Afzal Guru's petition
New Delhi, May 19: Official sources from Delhi Lieutenant Governor's (LG) office informed that the mercy petition file of Afzal Guru returned back from the Delhi LG's office too, seeking more clarification over the remark of the Delhi government.
Four years after receiving the mercy petition, Delhi government had backed the death sentence of Afzal Guru, the parliament attack case convict, but with the remark that the implication of law and order should be closely examined when carrying out the execution.
The sources from LG's office also said that the comment of Delhi government on the matter was not very clear and that is the reason why the file was sent back. They also remarked that the issue was very sensitive to elaborate, when asked to clarify specifically on it.
“We don't have any problem with the Supreme Court verdict but the implications of the law and order situation should be closely examined while carrying out the execution," a top government official said.
