Karnataka prisons to shift to outskirts

Bangalore, May 19: Karnataka government is planning on shifting eight prisons from the district headquarters to the outskirts, investing a Rs 40 crore for the project.

This include prisons in Shimoga, Hassan and Devanagere, informed the Minister for Prisons, Umesh V Katti.

Bangalore prison, previously located in the heart of the city, has already been shifted to the city outskirts. The existing premises have been developed as 'Freedom Park'.

The minister also said that the government's efforts to hire private security guards for prison duty has failed as there was no response from private security firms for government tender regarding the matter.
