'Laila' gets closer, heavy rains lash Andhra & TN
Chennai/ Hyderabad, May 19: The Cyclone 'Laila', caused by the depression over the Bay of Bengal, is moving closer to the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
The two south Indian states are already seeing heavy rains. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the cyclone Laila would cross the coast between Ongole and Visakhapatnam in Andhra by Thursday, May 20.
The officials have already put the states on alert for the extreme weather conditions, which will hit the Tamil Nadu and Andhra over the next few days. The fishermen have been advised to stay away from the seas.
The IMD on Tuesday, May 18 issued a bulletin informing about the depression over the Bay of Bengal, which would cause very heavy to heavy rains in the coastal regions accompanied by gusty winds of speed reaching 65 to 75 kmph.
