Thai govt rejects Red Shirt's ceasefire call
Bangkok, May 18: The Thai government on Tuesday, May 18 brushed aside the rebels' call for truce as 'nonsensence' .
Red Shirt protesters earlier called for a ceasefire to end street violence, which has claimed nearly 40 lives over the past few days.
In response to this move by the 'Reds', Suthep Thaugsuban, deputy prime minister in charge of security affairs said, "This is nonsense."
The security forces are not firing at civilians. The security forces are carrying out their duties in line with the authorities' orders."
"That is to contain the protest area and prevent newcomers from going inside while allowing people to leave the zone," he added.
