Maoists gun down Congress leader in Jharkhand

Simdega (Jharkhand), May 17: CPI (Maoists) gunned down a local Congress leader in Lumbatoli village Simdega district of Jharkhand.

Sub-divisional Police Officer (Simdega), Varun Kumar said that Hemant Bage, who is also the brother-in-law of Sub Divisional Officer of Simdega S Bhuiyan, was on his way to his in-laws house when a group of armed Naxals intercepted his vehicle.

Kumar said that the Maoists shot Hemant Bage dead and sat his vehicle on fire.

The half burnt vehicle of Bage along with his body was recovered by the police on Monday, May 17.

He said that the rebels left behind posters claiming responsibility for the killing. Police have launched combing operation in the area to nabbed the Naxals.

Neol Tirkey, a former Congress MLA belonging to Tamra village, was also threatened on Sunday, May 16.

Police found posters from the village warning Tirkey on speaking against the Maoists or supporting Operation Green Hunt. He has also been warned against carrying out development projects.

Earlier, the CPI (Maoists) had threated Congress party leaders and workers in Jharkhand, including those of Palamu district Congress committee of dire consequences if they fail to severe ties with the party.

On Mar 30, Maoists shot dead Dalbhumgarh Block President of Congress, Gobardhan Mahali in Dalbhumgarh under Ghatsila sub-division of East Singhbhum district.
