Dikshit denies receiving Center's letter on Afzal
New Delhi, May 17: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit said on Monday, May 17, that the she has not received any letter from Government concerning the mercy petition of Afzal Guru, convict in the Parliament attack who is on death row.
"I have not received any letter (from Home Ministry). May be the Home Department (of the Delhi government received it)," she said on Monday, May 17.
The Delhi Chief Minister, who is also in charge of the Home Department, was reacting to a newspaper report on Monday, May 17, which claimed that the Home Ministry had sent a reminder to her government and had asked for its comments on Guru"s mercy petition.
Guru, convicted for his role in Dec 13, 2001 attack on Parliament, has been imprisoned in Delhi"s Tihar jail.
The Center had written to the Delhi government in Apr 2009, seeking its opinion on the Guru's mercy petition.
However, Dikshit delayed her response stating that she would look into the matter after the Lok Sabha elections.
