UP: Congress expels senior leader for indiscipline

Lucknow, May 14: A senior leader has been expelled by the Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee for engaging in anti-party activities, a party spokesman said here on Friday, May 14.

"Former MLA Afsar U Ahmad of Siddharth Nagar has been suspended by the disciplinary committee for indulging in anti-party activities and a show cause notice has been issued to him," party spokesman Dwijendra Tripathi said.

"Ahmad has been accused of making unnecessary comments against Jagdambika Pal, the Member of Parliament from Doomariyaganj," Tripathi said.

He said that Ahmad has been asked to respond to the notice within 10 days.

The by-election to Doomariyaganj assembly seat, which has been left vacant due to the sudden death of the sitting BSP MLA Taufiq Ahmad, will be held on May 2010.
