Dal Lake cleaning drive begins

Srinagar, May 14 (ANI): Concerned citizens in Srinagar have begun a drive to clean the famous Dal Lake and its surroundings.

"We have seen this that most of these places are dirty, filthy, and what people do, be it tourists or locals, whenever they eat something, they throw the wrappers and bottles are thrown. This cleaning drive has been initiated by students of our institute so that they can keep this area neat and clean," said Amrit Pal of a hospitality institute.

The cleaning drive began at Nehru Park and continued with the surroundings of Dal Lake, including points where Shikaras (Kashmiri gondolas) dock, parks and pathways around the Dal Lake.

"We just want to clean the Dal Lake and nearby places because everybody comes here to visit this place and I think it's nice that nearby places should be neat and clean," said Neha, a student.

According to a special survey recently conducted by the federal Urban Development Ministry, Srinagar has been declared India's fourth dirtiest city. (ANI)
