Five fatally buried under a mound of earth in U.P. village
Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh), May 13 (ANI): Five persons, including four teenaged girls, were killed after a mound of earth fell on them in a village of Uttar Pradesh's Moradabad district on Thursday.
The incident occurred at Banga village, where a group of 10 to 12 girls were digging earth for construction purposes.
Villagers, near to the site, rushed to save the affected people and managed to rescue 11 persons who were almost buried under the heap of earth.
"Some children were digging earth here in the morning, when suddenly a mound of earth, which is called a 'Dhang' in local language, fell down and the children got buried under the heap," said Badri Prasad Singh, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Moradabad.
Two JCB machines, used for the purpose of construction, agricultural and material handling, were employed to rescue the victims.
"After getting the information, the district police came to the site. And with the help of the villagers, till now around 11 people have been rescued and four bodies of children have been recovered," Singh said.
The injured have been admitted to the district hospital, meanwhile, three of them are said to be in a critical condition. (ANI)
