Powerful landmine detected in Chattisgarh

Raipur, May 10: The landmine, containing 50 kg of explosives, believed to be planted by Maoists was detected from a national highway in Dantewada district of Chhattishgarh, police said.

Dantewada Superintendent of Police Amresh Mishra said that special police team on NH-221 near Manikonta village in Errabor unearthed the landmine, following a tip-off about the Naxals placing Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs)/landmines under the road.

He said that gunfires were exchanged between the rebels and the police who had reached the place to de-mine the road.

There were no casualty in the shootout, which lasted for 30 minutes, and the efforts are on to remove the landmine, he added.

Mishra said that the Maoists is likely to plan another deadly IED blast after Bijapur blast in which 8 CRPF personnel were killed.
