Nirupama case: Mother granted parole
Koderma(Jharkhand), May 9: Subha Pathak, mother of the slain journalist Nirupama Pathak, has been released on parole to attend the last rites of her daughter at Jhumritilaya home.
The local court's decision came following a petition filed by Subha on Friday, May 7, seeking permission to attend the shradh of her daughter.
Subha was arrested for the murder of her daughter Nirupama, a journalist working for a business daily in Delhi, who was found dead on Apr 29 under mysterious circumstances.
Though Subha claimed that her daughter had committed suicide, the post-mortem had revealed that Nirupama, who was pregnant, died due to smothering.
Suspecting it to be a case of honour killing, police arrested Subha following the disclosure that the victim was in love with a fellow journalist, Priyabhanshu Ranjan, who belonged to lower caste.
The two lovers wanted to get married but her parents were against it because of the difference in caste.
