Kasab's execution may take years
New Delhi, May 7: The Special Court on Thursday, May 6 awarded death sentence to the lone surviving terrorist of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, but Kasab's execution may take years.
According to a news agency report, Kasab is waiting in line behind at least 308 other convicts, lodged in various jails in India, awaiting execution.
The Special Court's ruling is also up for review in the High Court. The High Court will be reviewing the court proceedings and the sentencing and confirming the death sentence given to the terrorist.
While as many as 256 convicts are awaiting Supreme Court's and high courts' endorsement to their death sentence, a total of 52 other condemned prisoners, have filed mercy petitions before the central government including Mohammed Afzal Guru, the terrorist condemned to the gallows for his involvement in the December 2001 Parliament attack case.
