MPLAD scheme valid: Supreme Court
New Delhi, May 6: The Supreme Court has upheld the validity of MPLAD scheme, which allocates Rs 2 crore annually to the members of Parliament (MPs) for development of their constituencies.
"We hold that the MPLAD scheme is valid," the apex court bench led by Chief Justice KG Balakrishnan said on Thursday, May 6.
The five-judge Constitution Bench also comprised Justices RV Raveendran, DK Jain, P Sathasivam and JM Panchal.
"There is no reason for us to interfere in the scheme," the bench said, adding that an improvement, however, can be made in the working of the scheme.
