DMK chief demands early passage of Women's bill
New Delhi, May 3: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi demanded an early passage of the Women's Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha during his meeting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Monday, May 3.
During the 30 minutes meeting, the DMK Chief raise the issue of the early passage of Women"s Reservation Bill, that ensures 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies in Lok Sabha.
The bill which was passed by the Rajya Sabha on Mar 9, enjoyed two-third majority, with the support of BJP and Left parties.
"I told Sonia Gandhi that steps should be taken to pass the Women"s Reservation Bill in Lok Sabha as soon as possible," Karunanidhi said.
The DMK chief is also said emphasised the need for the Parliament to pass with two-thirds majority the Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution to revive the Legislative Council.
However, it is yet to be ascertained whether issue of Telecom Minister A Raja was discussed during the meeting.
He was accompanied by his daughter MP Kanimozhi and grand nephew and Union textiles minister Dayanidhi Maran.
On Sunday, May 2, the DMK chief ruled out the resignation of Raja over the 2G spectrum controversy as demanded by the opposition.
The DMK Chief denied talking on political issue, when he asked whether the matter was discussed with Sonia Gandhi.
"There is more time for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu to come….", he said.
He replied in negative when he was asked whether the issue of inter-state water disputes was taken up during the meeting.
