Delhi journalist killed by her own family?
Koderma, May 3: The alleged 'suicide' of a Delhi journalist has now taken a new turn as the police suspect that the 22-year-old victim was actually killed by her own family for the crime of falling in love with a man from a different caste.
Nirupama Pathak, who worked for Business Standard, was found dead on Apr 30. Her family claimed that she was found hanging from the ceiling fan and that she had also left behind a suicide note.
However, the police investigating the death of 22-year-old Nirupama have found new details that has led them to open up the honour killing angle in the ongoing probe.
As per reports, post mortem on the victim's body established that the girl was not only pregnant but also was smothered by a pillow.
"The post mortem report indicates the girl was smothered with a pillow. The girl was also found to be 8 to 12 weeks pregnant," G Kranti Kumar, SP, Koderma is quoted as saying in reports.
Nirupama was in love with another journalist based in Delhi. Both of them had studied in Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC)
While Nirupama was a Brahmin, her boyfriend was a Kayastha from Bihar, say reports.
Nirupama's boyfriend has also revealed that he received a call on Apr 28 from the victim. Nirupama reportedly told him to forget her as she won't be able to return to Delhi.
"They won't let me come," she had told her boyfriend during the phone call.
Her tickets back to Delhi were also cancelled.
The police are yet to make arrests.
The girl's family have been asked not to leave the district.
