14-year-old girl sold by neighbours

Jaipur, May 3: In a heinous case of slave trade, 14-year-old girl was allegedy sold off by her neighbours.

The victim identified as Marti, daughter of Shankar Meena of Palpadar village in Dungarpur district, was playing outside her house when she was asked by her neighbour Shanti Meena to accompany her to a nearby market on the pretext of being her new shoes.

However, instead of taking her to the market, Meena, who was later joined by her husband Kanti Meena and her father-in-law Jeeva, took Marti to Gujarat border where she was sold off to three persons Tharvda, Pratap and Raju, who were waiting for them.

The trio paid her neighbours Rs 40,000 and took her with them to Banaskantha. On reaching there she was handed over to contractor Jayanti Meena.

Marti was later rescued from cotton fields of Gujarat where she was made to work for hours without any break.
