Shanghai World Expo 2010 kick starts

Shanghai, May 1: The latest edition of the World Expo kick started in China's commercial capital on Saturday, May 1.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chinese political advisor Jia Qinglin and International Exhibitions Bureau President Jean-Pierre Lafon

The Shanghai World Expo 2010, which does not end till Oct 31, has been planned around the theme 'Better City, Better Life'.

The current edition of the World Expo aims at probing into the future of urbanisation and urban lives as well as the importance of improving the standard of living.

As many as 300,000 tickets were sold only for the opening day alone. China is expecting to play host to over 100 million visitors from across the globe over the next six months.

The expo is a gala affair with the intermingling of world's ideas, products, culture, science and technology.

The first World Expo was held in London in 1851
