Prices ease, food Inflation slips to 16.61 pc
New Delhi, Apr 29: On the lower prices of fruits and vegetables, the food inflation for the week ended April 17 slipped to 16.61 per cent from the previos week's rate of 17.65 per cent.
Food inflation dipped sharply by over 100 basis points and the overall the food index declined by 0.2 per cent.
While prices of masur, jowar, fruits and vegetables slipped by 2 per cent, moong, urad and fish got dearer during the week.
The government on Wednesday, Apr 28 expressed hope that the prices of essential commodities will fall further on the prediction of a normal monsoon.
