'India to be among top 5 chemical producers'
New Delhi, Apr 26: India will soon become among the top five manufacturers of certain chemicals, Bijoy Chatterjee, Secretary, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers said at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) seminar.
While the growth of the industry in India has been positive but the level of consumption is still low, he said, adding, “In certain chemicals like, ETA and Poly-propylene, India may soon become among the top five manufacturers. However, in terms of consumption, the consumption of pesticide is 0.5 kg/hectare against the global average of 12 kg/hectare, similarly, consumption o synthetic fiber is 1.9 kg/hectare in India against the global average of 3.5 kg/hectare."
Speaking at the 'CEO"s Round Table on Chemicals & Petrochemicals Industry organized by CII, Mr Chatterjee also added that he would take up the issue of 6.5 per cent duty differentiation between Naphtha and Polymers with the Ministry of Finance.
