New Delhi, Apr 25 (ANI): Gursharan Kaur, wife of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, has released a book titled 'History in the Making', a collection of the works of photojournalist Kulwant Roy.

The book release function was held on Saturday.

Compiled by Aditya Arya and Indivar Kamtekar and published by Harper Collins India, the foreword has been written by Prime Minister Dr. Singh.

The book is a visual record of India's past from the time of its struggle for independence to the years thereafter.

It has rare photographs of Mahatma Gandhi in debate with Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Jacqueline Kennedy sharing a laugh with India's first Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru, the Indian National Army trials, Congress party meetings and Mahatama Gandhi's visit to the North West Frontier Province.

"Gandhi's laugh, Nehru's frown, Patel's far away look, there were many cameras to capture them and turn them into film and they were so turned," said Gopal Krishna Gandhi, former West Bengal Governor.

"But what in hands of less-gifted could become a reality left over, a residue, and a relic. Like a moulded feather of a bird or the chaffed off skin of a reptile that had been turned in Kulwant Roy's photographs into a living moment, that is," he added.

Roy is a famous photojournalist; among his most iconic photographs are one of Jinnah arguing with Gandhi on the veranda of his bungalow.

Roy died in 1984 of cancer. (ANI)
