Bangalore, Apr 23: Swami Nithyananda, who was once showered with reverence by his followers in Karnataka, was on Thursday, Apr 22 welcomed with shoes and stones.

The sex scandal-tainted Swamiji was flown back to Bangalore a day after his arrest from Solan district of Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, Apr 21 so that he could be presented before the Ramanagara Court on Apr 22 night for remand.

On hearing the news of arrival of Nithyananda, people readied themselves to treat the religious leader with appropriate offerings.

A primary school teacher reportedly threw a shoe at the Swami before letting out verbal abuses. The police officers, who were escorting Nithyananda, had to drag the assailant away from the controversial godman.

The attacker has been identified as Srinivas, a primary school teacher.

The Swamji's sexcapades emerged in Mar 2010 after a TV channel aired the leaked sleazy video of the Swamji indulging in sexual activity with a Tamil actress, Ranjitha.

Following this, many allegations were slapped against him including those of sexual abuse, cheating and outraging people's religious sentiments.

Several police cases have been lodged and the legal action against the Swamji is awaited.
