I-T issues notices to KR, Gameplan Sports

Kolkata, Apr 23: IPL team owners continue to face the heat as the Income Tax (IT) department slapped notices to Knight Riders Sports Private Limited and Gameplan Sports to appear before it, in connection with the recent raid conducted at the offices of the two companies.

"We have issued notices to both Knight Rider Sports and Gameplan," Director General of I-T investigation (East) Vinod Khurana said.

He said the they have been asked to appear before the IT department on or before Monday, Apr 26.

Khurana said I-T sleuths were still examining the papers of the two entities when he was asked if the officials had found any irregularties.

He said that Kolkata I-T office would only check the details like corporate endorsements, ticket receipts and the various heads under which the expenditure was and registered in the books of the two entities.

He added that the I-T office would probe on whether KR (Knight Riders) sports have made a Tax Deduction At Source (TDS) when it made payment to CAB.

According to the Khurana, I-T Mumbai would probe the funding and shareholding pattern of KR Sports as the company was based in Mumbai.

The officials said that it was not neccessary for the officials of the two companies to appear in person but they can send a legal representative.

"They can send their legal counsel also," he said.

On Wednesday, Apr 23, the IT officials raided the offices of city offices of KR Sports and Gameplan in the wake IPL controversy.
