London, April 23 (ANI): A British model has bagged the top prize of the European Poker Tour - 1.1 million pounds.
Liv Boeree, 25, who has a degree in astrophysics, outclassed 1,240 contestants to win the prize money.
Although Boeree just had a pair of fives in the final hand she kept her cool against Swede Jakob Carlsson's ace high and a six.
"I can't believe it, I'm still pinching myself that I've won a million pounds. I don't feel like a millionaire because I'm still wearing my grubby old clothes," the Sun quoted a delighted Boeree, as saying.
She added: "But I'm sure when I've bought a little place in Las Vegas, a big house in the English countryside and a brand new car I will feel a bit more minted!"
Boeree, the third woman to win the EPT, is relatively new to competitive poker, having started just four years ago.
Taking about her experience at the tournament in San Remo, Italy, she said: "It took six days and by the end I was running on adrenaline.
"When I eventually won, I just jumped up and started whooping."
Boeree will now play the EPT grand final in Monte Carlo on Sunday. (ANI)
